Basics - Counting from 1 - 50
Overview:
We are not going to do complex mathematics at this moment in time. But this part covers some simple numbers in French.
Objective:
Be able to count to 50 in French, and 50 down to 1 if you are that way inclined.

Counting. That's easy!
There is no rule to the way to remember the names for the numbers 1 to 10 in French so we recommend that you simply practice!
CHIFFRES, NUMÉROS, NOMBRES:
10 is a nombre ou numéro!
Un chiffre is used to express a digit.
dix is un nombre, made from Les Chiffres 1 and 0.
Le numéro is used to refer to street / phone / house numbers and room numbers.

In French if you are saying the number SIX or TEN then you say them different ways if you are refering to a quantity of something.

If you are saying six of something or ten of something then the last letter (the 'X') IS NOT pronouced.
If you are just saying the numbers on their own then the last letter (the 'x') IS pronouced (like an 'S'!). |

Some notes to help you remember these numbers
Numbers 11 to 16 all end with 'ze'.
Numbers 17, 18 and 19 are directly translated to be 'ten-seven','ten-eight' and 'ten-nine'.
NOTE:
17,18,19 and a lot of other numbers that are a ten unit + something else use a hyphen! |
