Essential verbs - être

Overview:
Time to look at another important French verb!
Like AVOIR this verb is one of the most important to learn and practise.

Objective:
To recognise and conjugate To be in French. To be or not to be?

ÊTRE- To Be

We are now going to look at the verb TO BE: ÊTRE ( présent de l'indicatif ).

This is another IRREGULAR verb.

ÊTRE
English French
I am    je suis
you are    tu es
he / she is    il / elle est
we are    nous sommes
you are    vous êtes
they are    ils / elles sont
présent de l'indicatif

POINTS TO NOTE:
The vous form has an ê (circumflex accent). That can be easy to forget.

Below is a few example sentences using ÊTRE

English French
I am a vampire!    je suis un vampire!
We are trapped!    Nous sommes piégés!
They are insane!    Ils sont stupides!

This should make some sense!

Le hamster est amoureux

We will keep things this simple, because this is a very, very important verb in French!
