Essential verbs - More verbs !

Overview:
'I am able to' (can) and 'I want'. Two very useful verbs to learn !

Objective:
To understand and recognise a pattern with some more French verbs.

AUTRES VERBES - Other verbs

Again we are going to look at a couple of présent de l'indicatif verbs.

The verbs we are going to look at now are POUVOIR (to be able to / can)
and
VOULOIR (to want).

You might have noticed that both these verbs end with -OIR.

A pattern can be detected with these two verbs look at the table/s below.
English French
I can    je peux peu x
you can    tu peux peu x
   vous pouvez pouv ez
he can    il peut peu t
she can    elle peut
we can    nous pouvons pouv ons
they can    ils peuvent peuv ent
   elles peuvent

English French
I want    je veux veu x
you want    tu veux veu x
   vous voulez voul ez
he wants    il veut veu t
she wants    elle veut
we want    nous voulons voul ons
they want    ils veulent veul ent
   elles veulent

SPOT THE DIFFERENCE:
If you can learn one then you should be able to work out the other one without too much trouble, just remember that they share this pattern.
