You must know these words if you are serious about making contact with anyone in French. It's always important to be polite.


SAYING SORRY! 
I'm sorry (to a friend)
EnglishFrench masc. & fem. 
I'm sorry !   Je m'excuse !   

I'm sorry (about something)
EnglishFrench masc.  French fem. 
I'm sorry !   Je suis désolé !       Je suis désolée !   
There are several ways to say sorry in French depending on who you are, and who you are talking to, and what you are talking about! Simple heh?
REMEMBER THIS!
In French nouns (naming words!) have a gender (male or female). In English gender isn't important.

To make things better there is no strict rule in French to whether a word is masculine or feminine. Which is nice. You simply have to learn this for each and every word!!

How you write and speak French about yourself is also affected by whether you are male or female. See the above example. If you are male then you would write Je suis désolé! and if you are female then Je suis désolée!
(Notice the additional e)

To further complicate things (..you may have already noticed this but..) in this case the words are pronounced exactly the same!
